How does aesthetic breast surgery work?

Augmentation is one of the most common aesthetic breast surgeries, which can be performed for both aesthetic and health reasons. It allows for changes to the shape and size of breasts that are too small or deflated, or the correction of asymmetry, in order to improve bodily harmony.

There are two types of size modification procedures for breasts: in addition to increasing volume, there is also volume reduction. The former, the augmentation procedure, consists of inserting two breast implants, the structure and position of which are precisely calculated on an individual basis. The operation lasts between approximately 45 and 90 minutes and is usually performed under general anesthesia. It is carried out as an outpatient procedure (or with an overnight stay in the clinic) and recovery takes about one week.

By contrast, the reduction procedure aims to decrease excessive breast weight, as in some cases this can lead to posture problems or spinal discomfort. The reduction surgery is somewhat more complex than the augmentation: it lasts between 2 and 3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The hospital stay lasts 1 or 2 nights and recovery takes approximately 2 weeks.
Useful tips for breast modification:

Wie funktioniert die ästhetische Chirurgie an der Brust?
  1. Before making a final decision on a specific size, you can use neoprene pouches to stuff your bra; this will give you an idea of what you will look like after the operation.
  2. You cannot go from a very small size to a very large size immediately. If you start with an A-cup and a small size, you cannot achieve a DD-cup in a single procedure. It is important to set realistic goals. Your body and especially your skin need time to get used to such drastic changes, which is why experts advise only increasing by a few cup sizes initially. If you wish, you can increase the size of the implant over the course of a few years, although you should keep in mind that an increase in volume always places a greater strain on the spine.
  3. Breast reduction surgery can affect your ability to breastfeed, which is an important factor that should be carefully considered before the operation. However, an important advantage of reduction is that back pain often disappears afterward; furthermore, it is naturally easier to find fashionable clothing.
